AASA Governing Board Election Results

The AASA Governing Board election ballots for the IASA Northcentral and Northeastern Super Regions were counted on the morning of Monday, May 6, 2008. Dr. Thomas H. Mulligan, Superintendent of Riverton CU #14, served as the election judge.

The candidate for the one AASA Governing Board position from the IASA Northcentral Super Region was David W. Messersmith, Superintendent of Bushnell Prairie City #170. The candidate for the one AASA Governing Board position from the IASA Northeastern Super Region was Dr. David R. Schuler, Superintendent of Township HS #214.  

Mr. Messersmith and Dr. Schuler were elected and will begin serving their terms as Illinois representatives on the AASA Governing Board on July 1, 2008.  Mr. Messersmith will serve the remaining two years of an expired term.  Dr. Schuler will serve a three-year term.

AASA Executive Committee - The AASA Executive Committee articulates the mission and goals of the association, makes recommendations regarding resolutions submitted by the membership, and evaluates the Executive Director.  As advocates for education, the AASA Executive Committee develops the Association’s legislative agenda.  Every five years, the committee reviews the composition of the AASA Regions and, if necessary, recommends modifications.

AASA Governing Board - Illinois holds six seats on the AASA Governing Board.  Members of the AASA Governing Board serve as the voice for Illinois members and are also responsible for reporting back to the membership which they represent.  While the Executive Committee sets the agenda regarding legislation, it is the duty of the Governing Board members to act on the agenda through grassroots strategies.  They also review and act upon policy positions, resolutions and financial reports from the Executive Director and Audit Committee.
